This paper presents a Trace-enable Virtualization protection framework named TVGuarder, which protects IaaS user's important data from being illegally accessed or maliciously damaged by insider attacks. A threat model is established to characterize cloud-oriented insider attacks and countermeasures are proposed in TVGuarder. First, LSM hooks in host OS kernel are leveraged to enforce that VM images could only be accessed by host virtualization service. Second, a trusted loading mechanism is proposed to prevent tampered or disguised virtualization process from being executed in Host OS. Third, a log-based back tracing mechanism is designed to record full call trace of VM operations and guarantee that only legitimate VM operations are allowed. TVGuarder has been implemented in Openstack platform and several comprehensive experiments are conducted. Experimental results show that TVGuarder can identify sev eral important insider attacks and protect virtual machine images with only a small performance degradation. Article 2, Dynamic Job Scheduling Strategy for Unreliable Nodes in a Volunteer Desktop Grid (pages 21-33) Shaik Naseera Abstract: Desktop grid aims to harvest a number of idle desktop computers owned by individuals on the edge of internet. Now days, Desktop grids are gaining increasing popularity because of the advances in the technology and availability of high computing power from the desktops. Volunteer nodes in a Desktop Grid encounter two types of failures: volatility failure and interference failure. Volatile failures are due to periodic maintenance, machine breakdown, system crash or shutdown etc that make node inaccessible to the Desktop Grid user. Interference failures are due to volunteer autonomic nature that the node owner can withdraw participation from public execution due to the need to execute the private jobs. This makes the node inaccessible to the Desktop Grid user and may cause partial or entire loss of the public job execution. Volunteer interferences cause slowdown in the execution of the jobs. In this paper the author present a job scheduling algorithm that analyze the nature of v olunteer interference failures for effective scheduling of jobs. Article 3, Hilbert Index-based Outlier Detection Algorithm in Metric Space (pages 34-54) Honglong Xu, Haiwu Rong, Rui Mao, Guoliang Chen, Zhiguang Shan Abstract: Big data is profoundly changing the lifestyles of people around the world in an unprecedented way. Driven by the requirements of applications across many industries, research on big data has been growing. Methods to manage and analyze big data to extract valuable information are the key of big data research. Starting from the variety challenge of big data, this dissertation proposes a universal big data management and analysis framework based on metric space. In this framework, the Hilbert Index-based Outlier Detection (HIOD) algorithm is proposed. HIOD can handle all datatypes that can be abstracted to metric space and achieve higher detection speed. Experimental results indicate that HIOD can effectively overcome the variety challenge of big data and achieves a 2.02 speed up over iORCA on average and, in certain cases, up to 5.57. The distance calculation times are reduced by 47.57% on average and up to 89.10%. Article 4, High Performance CGM-based Parallel Algorithms for the Optimal Binary Search Tree Problem (pages 55-77) Vianney Kengne Tchendji, Jean Frederic Myoupo, Gilles Dequen Abstract: In this paper, the authors highlight the existence of close relations between the execution time, efficiency and number of communication rounds in a family of CGM-based parallel algorithms for the optimal binary search tree problem (OBST). In this case, these three parameters cannot be simultaneously improved. The family of CGM (Coarse Grained Multicomputer) algorithms they derive is based on Knuth's sequential solution running in time and space, where n is the size of the problem. These CGM algorithms use p processors, each with local memory. In general, the authors show that each algorithms runs in with communications rounds. is the granularity of their model, and is a parameter that depends on and . The special case of yields a load-balanced CGM-based parallel algorithm with communication rounds and execution steps. Alternately, if , they obtain another algorithm with better execution time, say , the absence of any load-balancing and communication rounds, i.e., not better than the first algorithm. The authors show that the granularity has a crucial role in the different techniques they use to partition the problem to solve and study the impact of each scheduling algorithm. To the best of their knowledge, this is the first unified method to derive a set of parameter-dependent CGM-based parallel algorithms for the OBST problem. Article 5, A Two-Level Fuzzy Value-Based Replica Replacement Algorithm in Data Grids (pages 78-99) Nazanin Saadat, Amir Masoud Rahmani Abstract: One of the challenges of data grid is to access widely distributed data fast and efficiently and providing maximum data availability with minimum latency. Data replication is an efficient way used to address this challenge by replicating and storing replicas, making it possible to access similar data in different locations of the data grid and can shorten the time of getting the files. However, as the number and storage size of grid sites is limited and restricted, an optimized and effective replacement algorithm is needed to improve the efficiency of replication. In this paper, the authors propose a novel two-level replacement algorithm which uses Fuzzy Replica Preserving Value Evaluator System (FRPVES) for evaluating the value of each replica. The algorithm was tested using a grid simulator, OptorSim developed by European Data Grid projects. Results from simulation procedure show that the authors' proposed algorithm has better performance in comparison with other algorithms in terms of job execution time, total number of replications and effective network usage. Article 6, MR-LDA: An Efficient Topic Model for Classification of Short Text in Big Social Data (pages 100-113) Xiongwen Pang, Benshuai Wan, Huifang Li, Weiwei Lin Abstract: Latent Dirichlet Allocation(LDA) is an efficient method of text mining, but applying LDA directly to Chinese micro-blog texts will not work well because micro-blogs are more social, brief, and closely related with each other. Based on LDA, this paper proposes a Micro-blog Relation LDA model (MR-LDA), which takes the relations between Chinese micro-blog documents and other Chinese micro-blog documents into consideration to help topic mining in micro-blog. The authors extend LDA in the following two points. First, they aggregate several Chinese micro-blogs as a single micro-blog document to solve the problem of short texts. Second, they model the generation process of Chinese micro-blogs more accurately by taking relationship between micro-blog documents into consideration. MR-LDA is more suitable to model Chinese micro-blog data. Gibbs sampling method is borrowed to inference the model. Experimental results on actual datasets show that MR-LDA model can offer an effective soluti on to text mining for Chinese micro-blog. === About IJGHPC === The International Journal of Grid and High Performance Computing (IJGHPC) examines current, state-of-the art research on all aspects of grid and cloud evolution, middleware, standards, API, economy, education, services, algorithms, collaboration, impact, instrumentation, security, portals, trends, challenges, models, work flow management, wireless systems, and high performance computing.
