The Tomb of Jam Nido at Makli Hills, Thatta, Sindh, Pakistan

This is the tomb of Jam Nido, a Summa ruler who reigned from 1461-1508.One of the largest necropolises in the world, with a diameter of approximately 8 kilometers, Makli Hill is supposed to be the burial place of some 125,000 Sufi saints. It is located on the outskirts of Thatta, the capital of lower Sind until the seventeenth century, in what is the southeastern province of present-day Pakistan.

Derawar Fort, Cholistan, Pakistan

Derawar Fort is an ancient fort located in Cholistan Desert in Pakistan. The Fort was built by Deoraj, a prince of Jaisalmer. It was in possession of royal family of Jaisalmer when it was captured by Abbasis in 1735. In 1747, the Fort slipped from the hands of Abbasis in the reign of Nawab Bahawal Khan due to his pre-occupations at Shikarpur. Nawab Mubarak Khan took the stronghold back in 1804.

Chilm is the most beautiful village among all the villages of Astore, because it is the starting point of Deosai, the world's second highest plateau. Due to its diverse landscape and climatic conditions the valley provides excellent habitat for a variety of commercially important medicinal plants.

This is a view of Tupopdan mountain, one of the most amazing places along Karakoram highway.

The Karakoram is a ‘who’s who’ of the world’s tallest peaks – including K-2, second only to Everest. And its valleys deliver a glut of glaciers, the longest outside the polar regions, with some creeping right to the road edge. The 240-kilometer Hunza Valley is an ancient and remote kingdom in the northeast of Pakistan, nestled close to China and the Wakhan Corridor of Afghanistan. The simplicity of village life belies the valley’s strategic and economic importance. Not so many years ago, travel through its narrow gorges and high passes was treacherous as local brigands supplemented meagre agricultural outputs by raiding silk route caravans, trading slaves and capturing loot.

And in saying that, one of the more famous day treks around the region is known as the Two Bridges trek which as the name suggests sees you crossing two bridges on a five hour trek in the area surrounding Passu and the neighboring villages before ending at Borit Lake.The trek itself is probably more of a pleasant stroll than a strenuous effort but the setting and the scenery is some of the best I've seen so far. Apart from crossing the two bridges you meander through farming villages, traverse steep ravines, cross potato and pumpkin fields as the farmers wave hello and end the day by enjoying a nice cold drink by an alpine lake.

The mountain in the picture is Nanga parbat (also known as Nangaparbat Peak or Diamir) is the 9th highest mountain on Earth and the 2nd highest in Pakistan. Nanga Parbat has tremendous vertical relief over local terrain in all directions. To the south, Nanga Parbat boasts what is often referred to as the highest mountain face in the world: the Rupal Face rises an incredible 4,600 m (15,000 feet) above its base. To the north, the complex, somewhat more gently sloped Rakhiot Flank rises 7,000 m (22,966 feet) from the Indus River valley to the summit in just 27 km, one of the 10 greatest elevation gains in so short a distance on Earth. Nanga Parbat is the fastest growing mountain on Earth and it is still growing about 7mm a year.

Shahjahan Masjid-Pakistan

The Shah Jahan Mosque was built in the reign of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. It is located in Thatta, Sindh province, Pakistan. In the town of Thatta (100 km / 60 miles from Karachi) itself, there is famous Shahjahani Mosque with its beautiful architecture. This mosque was built in 1647 during the reign of Mughal King Shahjahan, also known as the builder King. The mosque is built with red bricks with blue coloured glaze tiles probably imported from another Sindh's town of Hala.

Graphene is an emerging material, like a rising star on the horizon of physics. Acclaiming the Nobel Prize in physics in 2010, the two dimensional crystal continues to surprise us with new physics as well as new applications that are destined to reach the commercial sphere.



In this lecture series, we have invited Pakistan's two most distinguished scientists to discuss the fundamental physics. The understanding of graphene has opened up new doors of inquiry. What immediately catches our attention is the emergence of new physics: relativistic quantum effects, which previously, are only the ambit of high energy physicists. With graphene, for example, it is now possible to mimick these high energy effects on the tabletop. This lecture series aims at:



* describing relativistic quantum mechanics,
* understanding how the charge carriers in graphene are massless Dirac fermions,
* understanding the electronic structure of this two dimensional material,
* unravelling some of its exciting transport and structural properties, and
* appreciating the role of disorder in graphene.

A Marie Curie Experienced Researcher position is available under the 7th Framework of EU-FP7 program in the GASMENS Project. The researcher position is within the Stokes Institute, Ireland.

The Stokes Institute, which is located on the University of Limerick campus, currently has a compliment of over 30 full-time PhD researchers and 15 post-doctoral fellows. The group was formed in 1990 and was initially focused on gas turbine flows and heat transfer in electronic systems. It has since grown, to include all significant issues in microscale flows, electronic systems reliability, biofluidics and aerospace heat transfer. The Institute is now a multidisciplinary, multinational group of scientists and engineers working in close collaboration with many industries, hospitals and government organisations.

Description of GASMENS Project:
GASMEMS is an international training network for young researchers in the field of rarefied gas flows in Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS). The GASMEMS network has been built from several existing collaborations within bilateral programmes, from scientific collaborations and national networks with certain objectives. To achieve these objectives, 15 PhD students and 5 Postdoctoral researchers will be recruited in the framework of this network of 17 European laboratories and industrial partners. Individual career development plans, mobility, the requirement for every participant researcher to acquire a minimum knowledge in modelling, simulation, experimental techniques and MEMS manufacturing, in addition to their project specialisation and Network-wide workshops will ensure that each researcher receives exposure to, and benefits from, the full expertise of the Network.

Experienced Researcher Salary:
€46,851 p.a. (Mobility and travel allowances may also apply, in line with the terms of the Marie Curie Grant Agreement).

For humanitarian aid, the Commission works with about 200 operational partners, including United Nations agencies, the Red Cross/Crescent movement and non-governmental organisations (NGOs). Aid is channelled impartially, straight to victims, regardless of their race, ethnic group, religion, gender, age, nationality or political affiliation.

The European Commission DG Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection (ECHO) Islamabad Office announces the vacant position for a Programme Assistant (PA) for its Office based in Islamabad.

PROFILE
* Higher education and/or equivalent adequate experience, a university degree in social sciences or similar is desirable.

The Semantic Technologies Lab at the Royal Military College of Canada is recruiting PhD students for the OntoCmaps project. The positions include a Ph.D. research assistantship and support for conference travel and equipment.

The OntoCmaps Project
In the context of the Semantic Web, the extraction, update and evaluation of formal conceptual models (domain ontologies and rules) from unstructured and structured knowledge sources is an important challenge. This task is particularly difficult when the adopted approach is an open (domain independent) and unsupervised (without any guidance) knowledge extraction. However, such a domain independent approach is crucial to the interoperability and reuse of ontology learning methodologies across various applications and domains. The interest of the availability of a complete ontology (with all its layers) is that it is essential for agents to reason over semantic data and this will provide effective knowledge retrieval capabilities.

The OntoCmaps project aims at developing a domain independent methodology and a set of tools for learning the ontology layers (terms, taxonomy, conceptual relations, relation hierarchies, axioms and axiom schemata) from unstructured knowledge sources. In particular, we aim at automatically learning the three last layers, which has been done very rarely in the state of the art. The research also explores filtering techniques that identify important information and integration techniques that adequately combine knowledge coming from various sources. The long-term objective of this research is to build learning-by-reading systems by exploring the integration of deep semantic analysis, filtering and knowledge integration techniques. Our current application domains are the biomedical domain and the eLearning domain.

The Royal Military College of Canada and the Semantic Technologies Lab The Royal Military College of Canada (RMC), established in 1876, is the only federal institution in Canada with degree granting powers. Programmes are available at the undergraduate and graduate levels on site through traditional studies and by distance learning through the Division of Continuing Studies. There are possibilities to take courses at Queen’s University as well. The Semantic Technologies Lab is specialized in knowledge extraction in the context of the Semantic Web. By joining the Lab, you will develop your skills in edge technologies needed in both academia and industry. You will also have the opportunity to have close collaborations (including internships, visits, joint conferences) with other institutions including Simon Fraser University and Athabasca University, thus allowing multiple research experiences.
